How Poor Lifestyle Choices are Putting your Health at Risk

Each year, lifestyle-related chronic diseases or noncommunicable diseases (NCD) are responsible for more than 40 million deaths. Approximately 15 million of these deaths may be classified as ‘premature deaths’ as they occur in the age group of 30 – 69 years of age.

Who is the culprit?

The following 4 groups of diseases account for more than 80% of the total NDC burden: cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and Type 2 diabetes The principle risk-factors associated with this ‘group of 4’ includes tobacco smoke, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and the overconsumption of alcoholic beverages.

What is the solution?

Shifting the paradigm from treatment-driven reactive care to person-driven proactive care is the best bet we have for tackling this issue. The most feasible way to do this is through Smart mHealth apps and devices, which are already overcoming so many traditional barriers to the healthcare delivery system, including distance, time, self-management, real-time health monitoring, and health knowledge.

Playpal Announces 2020 Chronic Disease Research Targets

As we move into a new decade, we bring an entirely new set of targets that will define 2020 and 2021. We are focusing our R&D on some of the most prevalent chronic diseases to date so as to expand our algorithm and understand the biological, psychological, and sociological processes that contribute to the diseases in question. In this way, we will be able to develop more accurate models for proactive chronic disease management.
