Move More Month ;

Move More Month is set to take place this April. Organized by the American Heart Association (AHA) every April, it is a celebration of physical activity that encourages all Americans to commit to a more active daily regime. Previously, it was known as ‘National Walking Day’.

Individuals, communities, schools, and workplaces are invited to participate by holding events and using the Heart.org range of educational and promotional materials. According to AHA’s Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics 2018 Update, “only 22% of American adults meet the federal physical activity recommendations for aerobic and muscle strengthening activity, and one in three adults report participating in no leisure time activity at all.” While it is generally accepted that the a majority of people are aware of the health benefits of daily exercise, many overlook the long-lasting benefits of moderate activity. Hence, the Move More Month initiative is geared towards finding creative ways to get people moving daily, whether at work, at home, or in the outdoors.

More specifically, the Move More Month suggestions are:

Outside of initiatives like Move More Month, the health-tech industry represents a parallel and more tangible way of making daily activities engaging, specifically within the mHealth sector. However, detailed analysis of the mHealth industry reveals that the average consumer’s accessibility to health information and health-tracking is highly fragmented. This prevents any sensible absorption or utilization by the consumer, lowers user-engagement and retention rates, and does little to mitigate the rising health-care costs.

To minimize these problems, Playpal recognizes the need to assimilate data from heterogeneous sources and promote self-management of health. In fact, Playpal represents the very essence of what the AHA is trying to achieve. The AI-powered health Platform is set to revolutionize the health industry, as it collects and consolidates IoT health data from across apps and devices to deliver a holistic picture of a user’s health.  It integrates the requirements of individual users, commercial entities, and communities to deliver smart visualizations of health data. More specifically, the Platform records and processes users’ actions to influence their health capital value, the impact of which is visible and verifiable through a decentralized blockchain linkage. Based on this value, users’ healthy behavior is rewarded financially with Playpal’s cryptocurrency (i.e. PlayCoins). While users benefit from proactive, data-driven health advice, relevant stakeholders receive valuable insights on their community’s health profile, allowing them to design targeted programs that encourage healthy behavior. ٰIt is expected that integration with the Platform will increase user engagement in health programs and, eventually, reduce health care costs.
